Since Geylang area is considered as a red-light district, is it safe to walk in the area at night around 9 - 9. Gaylang is a residential area and perfectly safe to walk at night. Yes there is small redlight area but there is nothing unsafe about it. If your male you are far more likely to be propositioned walking outside the 'redlight' area on Orchard Road.
Nowhere is ''unsafe'' in Singapore , as long as one is sensible and observes all the ''normal'' precautions one would anywhere. If you want to avoid it, then avoid the areas of lorong 24, 26, 28, There are many parts to Geylang. The red light district is a small portion and the activities are confined to the "Lorongs" or small roads mainly even numbers from Geylang Lorong 4 up to Geylang Lorong 24 with some spillover to the odd numbered lanes.
There also quite a number of fruit shops along Sims Ave opposite side of Geylang Road between Lor 11 - 13 where you can savour the famous Durians. The place is buzzing with activities day and night. It's safe but just have to be mindful of your surrounding. Geylang is perfectly safe at night, even at the "red light" lanes.
